Let's Talk Toothbrushes

For years I've used a standard toothbrush.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit of an over-brusher.  My preference would be to brush my teeth about 5 times per day.  I've always been that way, and I have really, really white teeth.  So white that people routinely  ask if I've had my teeth bleached.  (not that there is a damn thing wrong with having your teeth bleached...i simply haven't)  I think I've always credited my white teeth to my  diligent brushing.

I also am a "hard" brusher, from what my dentist says.  I brush too hard, and he can literally see grooves (with a magnifying glass) on my teeth.  This was the latest news at my last dentist appointment.  That, and the recommendation that I purchase a "spinning" toothbrush.

TEN uses a spinning toothbrush.  So does mrs.mfc.  I think lots of people use them.  I have never felt the need.  But, it seems that I am not to be trusted on my own with brushing.  I cannot be relied upon to brush in smooth circles that will not grind my teeth to pieces.

I am now the proud owner of one of these....

I've used it for about a week.  I can't quite decide what I think.  My teeth DO feel more "slippery", like they do after I leave an actual dental cleaning, which is good :)  I'm also using mouthwash 2-3 times per day.  As a replacement for brushing.  I'm only brushing twice a day.

What type of toothbrush to YOU use?  Are you a standard type?  Or a spinning type?

Is it crazy that I dread brushing my teeth with the spinning toothbrush?  I almost want to go back.  But I can't :(

Yes, I do realize this this entire post can be classified under #stupidwhitegirlproblems.  But you know you have an opinion.  So tell me.

I promise you will get used to the spin brush. It definitely weired me out at first- almost felt like it was vibrating my whole head. But it will start to feel normal. Until, of course, you change the batteries and it suddenly has like triple power! HA!!

I am a standard kind of girl. No bells and whistles in my mouth. That just made me laugh.

My dentist says I have terrible gums and switched me to a spinning toothbrush to keep my teeth from falling out in twenty years. I used it for a while and switched back to a regular toothbrush. I just prefer it, and he hasn't said anything, so I'm hoping he can't tell.

I'm also jealous of your very white teeth, whatever the cause. My teeth are yellowish (like, I Photoshop them when I can), but they've been that way since I was little. I tried having Zoom! whitening in high school, but it was so painful I was crying about 15 minutes into it and had to stop. I have come to terms with my teeth (sort of), but I'm still envious of your pearly whites.

My best friend is a dentist and she took one look at my teeth years ago and goes, "Seriously Amy, lay off the toothbrush. It's not your ex." I brush waayyy too hard! LOL! So I got a spin toothbrush and it's helped a lot. You'll get used to it! :)

I've never been a huge fan of electric tooth brushes. I always forget to change the brush heads or batteries and go back to using my regular ones.
