Thanksgiving Take Two!

I'm in a hotel.

In DC.

All by my lonesome.

And I couldn't be happier :)

I just pigged out on some supper, and now I'm ready to watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.  I'm ready to watch perfect bodies marching around on the runway.  Perfect bodies that NEVER pig out at supper.  And I'm perfectly okay with that.  I wouldn't want to look like them anyway.  Life would be too complicated.  I'm just sayin :)   hahaha...

Anyway, back to Thanksgiving.  Mother and I (really just Mother...but I watched...and that counts) made the most delish turkey ever.  It was Martha's recipe.  And really, Martha DOES know best.  Doesn't she?  And her gravy!  We cooked the turkey with veggies surrounding it, and then mushed them up, and strained them, and they made the most TO DIE FOR gravy ever.  You should try it.  Really.  You will need some fancy pants kitchen utensils and such to make it all happen, but it's worth it.  Pinky swear.

So, before we commenced with the turkey shenanigans we had a little walk with Louis.  Here are some pics:

(I'm sporting my MBTs here.  yes, i realize they look like ortho shoes.  no, i don't care)

(i thought a pic of LW next to this miniature Christmas tree would be a good idea.  he, however, did not want to cooperate)

(GEEZ MUMMY!  GET OVER IT ALREADY.  this is my new favorite LW picture.  because it really does show his personality.  what a cut up!!)

And now for some turkey talk:

(veggies around the turkey and in the turkey.  we didn't use the veggies IN the turkey for our gravy though)

(Martha told us to use this cheese cloth of sorts to cover the turkey)

(ready to go into the oven!)

(TADA!)

(Happy Thanksgiving!)

And in closing, I would like to introduce you to Katie Scarlet.  Katie is my mother's Love Bird.  She's quite the diva, and LW developed a crazy crush on her.  Seriously.  He tried to kiss her!  Well, lick her anyway.  SHE tried to bite his nose.  It was all quite comical.  I was so very proud of him because he never once tried to eat her :)  Good pups!

AND...I am devastated.  What in the !@#$!@ is wrong with blogger these days?  I can't invert a picture and post it the way it should be seen?  This picture is so precious.  It's right side up on my screen.  As a matter of fact, it's my new computer walpaper.  But, my friends, you will unfortunately need to crane your neck to the side to see it in all of it's preciousness.

I'm sorry.

Blame blogger.

Let's all have a moment of silence where we cuss blogger.  Shall we?  Hmph.

So.  To the left everyone.  One.  Two.  Three!

Wish me luck tomorrow friends.  I'm delivering the biggest presentation of my career.  I'm sooooo excited!!!

Oops! I fibbed :(

I'm heading out of town for work tomorrow morning.

So...I probably won't be back with my Thanksgiving update until Thursday.  Boo hiss!

See you then.

Thanksgiving Take One!

My trip to Big City, VA was lovely.  Just lovely!  Louis was very excited to meet his Nana for the first time.  They became fast friends, and he even won over her Love Bird named Katie Scarlet :)

We went to a Vietnamese restaurant while I was there.  I've never had Vietnamese.  I'm most excited to have tried it.  I'm not sure I'm a HUGE fan of pho, simply because of the overload of onions in it.  Perhaps Pho, minus onions would make T a fan?  I'll have to try that the next time.

We took Louis on a walk at a nearby park.  There had to be 25 dogs out and about that morning, and he made it a point to socialize with each and every one, of course!

I saw this on someone's car.  And I thought I was bad!  How do you feel about this?  About airbrushing your pet's photo on to your license plate, and then their name next to it?  Hmmm...

We went shopping, and I bought a little something for the newest baby in my life.  I got him this presh little lamby:

He makes the sound of a mother's heartbeat, and is placed in the crib when baby is falling asleep.  He also makes the sound of a river, and other such soothing sounds.  Very clever little contraption if I do say so myself.  Wish I had gotten Louis one of these when I first brought him home.  I probably would have gotten a bit more sleep if I had!

I also got the little guy this sign with his name on it:

Then it was time to shop for Louis!

I bought him this fabulous new VT collar:

And don't you know his Nana spoiled him senseless by buying him the plaid Christmas collar I've been looking for everywhere, but haven't been able to find!

AND, she also bought him a Christmas water bowl :)  It's gynormous, and striped like a candy cane.  AND...it says "Merry Christmas" on the bottom inside, so every time he has a drink he is wished a Merry Christmas.  He truly is a very spoiled little boy!

AND....All of the rest of the pictures from our Thanksgiving festivities are on my camera.  Which is charging at the moment.  So...I'll skip to the Virginia Tech/UVA game party at my house back in Smalltown, VA.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Hokies won.  In case you weren't already aware :)  GO HOKIES!!!
Bunches of friends came over to watch the game.  I had the chance to see slively and his wife for the first time in a few weeks.  They just had a baby, and you can imagine how tired they are :)  And The Real Housewife of Delaware and Mr. Delaware came too!  TRHOD is preggers, and I got to see her belly (and love on it a bit too!).
(me and LW waiting for everyone to arrive)
(LW is worn out from all of this travel and entertaining)
(The Cheerleader and LW.  he loves The Cheerleader so very much)
(TRHOD and I in front of my Hokie flag on the front door)
(LW gets sleepier and sleepier as the day goes on)
(Mr. Delaware and TRHOD...isn't she just presh pregnant?!?!  i think so)
(my neighbor did this while I was sleeping.  she is a UVA fan, of course.  blech!)
Sunday I cleaned up the house from Saturday's festivities, and we replaced my flag pole.  It broke, hence the flag hanging on the front door!  We went to brunch.  We did some Christmas shopping.  I relaxed a bit.  It was freezing outside, so we had a fire.  And we watched The Wolfman.  Have you heard of it?  I rather liked it, I think.
Seersucker Suit Movie Review coming soon!
I surely do hope that your Thanksgiving Holiday was absolutely lovely!  I hope that you ate more turkey than your waste line could handle.  I hope that you had stuffing galore.  And most importantly, I hope that you had someone very special to share it with :)
Back tomorrow with Thanksgiving Take Two!
Gobble, Gobble
I'm getting ready to head to Big City, VA in a few hours for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Louis is quite excited about our little road trip:
And, I'm looking forward to heaping servings of stuffing:
Mmmmmmmmmm...delish!
I was thinking, the other day, about what Thanksgiving means to me.  I don't have a huge family with bunches of siblings and cousins and such.  I don't have a husband or any little children.  BUT...Thanksgiving still has a "feeling" to me.  Or maybe it's Fall that I feel?  Regardless, this is what Thanksgiving means to me:
And the knowledge that:
Is just around the corner.  Sigh.....
May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
Happy Thanksgiving friends!!!
Seersucker Suit Movie Review - Due Date
Zach Galifianakis is funny.  Anyone who has seen The Hangover can tell you that.  But how many different types of characters can he play?
This was my conundrum when it came to Due Date.  Would it be like watching The Hangover all over again?  Men, driving across country.  Zach Galifianakis involved.  Who knew?  But I was ready to laugh.  I needed to laugh.  And so we went.
Let me tell you something, my friends.  Zach Galifianakis is probably never going to play a serious role.  He is probably never going to play the role of someone with social graces and deep thoughts.  He may.  But most probably not.
BUT...THAT'S OKAY.  His character in Due Date, Ethan Tremblay, is precious.  Absolutely precious. Just like in The Hangover, he is a complete idiot.  But you love him!  You can't help yourself :)  With Robert Downey, Jr. playing Peter Highman (say it out loud.  yep.  that's his name), beside Galifianakis' silly man it works.  At least, it did for us.
(can we please discuss the cuteness of Sonny, Ethan Tremblay's dog?  Presh!)
This movie has received a lot of criticism.  They say that the characters could have been developed more completely.  And I'm sure they could have.  But I didn't want them to be.  I wasn't trying to watch a serious movie.  I was trying to laugh.  And I did.  And there were enough curve balls that it kept me on my toes.  And I didn't get bored.  Not once.
So maybe this is a rental movie.  Perhaps it isn't necessary to see it on the big screen.  Whatever.  Just see it.  When you are having a bad day, watch this movie.  I guarantee it will renew your faith in humanity.   It will make you believe again.  Believe in dreams.  And believe in friendships...no matter how little sense they make.
Here's the only trailer I could find.  I don't particularly like this trailer, but I guess it gives you a little insight into the hilariousness of Due Date:
So, for silly laughs, and mindless giggles.  I award this movie:
TWO SEERSUCKER SUITS!  The reason I'm only giving it two suits is because I definitely recommend it as a rental.  Also because I was really in the mood for a silly movie on this night, and I absolutely loved it.  But, stepping back and looking at the movie as a whole it probably wasn't any great masterpiece.  I definitely recommend it though.  I wouldn't want to miss it.  Even if you just wait for it to come out on TBS :)
All I have to say is "You'd better check yourself, before you wreck yourself" :)
