Julia Child and the Diet Taco

I finally watched Julie & Julia the other night.  I've been wanting to see it for ages.

I have strong memories of my mother in the kitchen with the TV on when I was growing up.  More often than not I could hear the distinct accent of Julia Child delivering instructions on how to baste, roast or puree something.  I became fascinated with Julia.  I became fascinated with the fact that my mother NEVER cursed, unless she was watching Dinner at Julia's and trying to make whatever was on Julia's menu for the day.

I have wanted to watch this movie for a while, but for some reason I didn't get the gist of it.  I didn't realize it was really two stories in one.  I didn't realize how much I would adore it.  I giggled out loud many times, and dare say it has inspired me.

After the movie was over I proclaimed to TEN that I was going to cook one meal each week.  Not something from one of Julia's cookbooks, necessarily, but something from a recipe.  Something that doesn't simply require my heating it up in the microwave.  Something that isn't a frozen pizza.  I was very serious about this proclamation.  I'm not sure TEN believed me.

So, last night was my first concoction.  I made Shepherd's Pie.  Now, I'm not going to pretend that Shepherd's Pie is something fancy...but there was a bit of cooking involved.  It was pretty good.  I did, however, forget to add salt & pepper, which probably would have made it taste quite a bit better.  But, all in all it wasn't a total loss.  TEN was famished when he came over last night, so he thought it was delish.  I pointed out all of my errors and he simply said, "well, I'm proud of you for trying...and I think it's tasty".

I haven't a clue what I will cook next week, but I've got to be sure I don't forget anything important this time!

Now...on to the Diet Taco...(otherwise known as the Fresco Taco at Taco Bell)

Blech!  Two Thumbs Down!  Not to be ordered again by T!  Julia Child would certainly NOT condone this taco at all!!

I was very excited to take my newly printed coupon from Taco Bell, that I found HERE,to my local drive thru to experience this "diet taco" of sorts.  Boo....it was terrible.  I can't explain why.  I think it was because it had no cheese, no grease and no seasoning.  In other words...NO TASTE.

It was simply some sort of meat that didn't taste like anything, lettuce & pico de gallo.  I was very disappointed :(  I thought for sure I would loose 10 lbs on this drive thru diet, and was anxious to get started.  Oh well.

If you would like to try a free Fresco Taco from Taco Bell, print out your free coupon HERE.

Cooking once a week is a great plan.

I am a fan of TB. Even their diet food. Can't help it.

Love it. I agree about the Diet Tacos. YUCK. I guess I'll just have to stick with Subway and the "Jared" subs for now. Have a great day!

I still haven't seen the movie! I have the book and feel I should finish that first. I was wondering how that diet taco was, I should have known it'd be no good. Hope you're staying warm in all this snowing. It's STILL snowing here!!

I'm not a fan of Taco Bell as it is, but I have to admit those Fresco commercials were getting to me! Maybe now I'll hold strong on my dislike! :)
