Hello Weekend! I Have Missed You So...

So, I went to the event Wednesday night all decked out in pink and silver.  AND...I made it a point NOT to meet anyone.  And I was successful!

That sounds weird doesn't it?  To be pleased to have not met anyone:)

But, it seems like every time I do meet someone as of late it ends up all wrong.  Either I like them, and they like me, but then..... well, you know the story.  OR...they like me, but are old enough to be my grandfather.  OR...they like me, but are far too young.

So I took the night off from letting myself meet anyone, and guess what?  I had the most fabulous time:

(see, i told you my dress was bubble gum pink!  or, maybe pepto pink?  either way, it was "perky" to say the least!)

(i ran the pool table and we thought a picture in front of the pool cues was appropriate)

(we ended the night at a local martini bar.  thank goodness daisy was able to drive my car home because those "very berry" martinis get me every time!)

And now that I think about it, I'm not sure I paid my bill at said martini bar?  Oops!  I'll have to stop by to remedy that if I haven't.

Yesterday afternoon something happened that put a BIG SMILE on my face :)

Perhaps all is not lost with new friend from the weekend?  I will have to keep you posted....  (i know, i know that's so lame, but i am not counting any chickens just yet...)

Plans tonight, party tomorrow, AND THEN.....

...for the final rounds.  Can I please tell you how freaking excited I am to see Trevor Immelman?!?!??!

Could he be any cuter??   I adore him.  Absolutely, positively adore him.  For so many reasons (we have SO MUCH in common).   BUT...alas, he is married to a lovely lady and I accept that.  I do.  Really.  I'm sure she completely understands my fascination with her husband, and she won't mind one bit if I wink at him a time or two.  Right?

We are leaving from a local Country Club and riding up on a bus.  A cool bus.  The kind with a bar on it.  That's right friends...mimosas and sausage biscuits on the way up.  So I will be completely relaxed upon arrival, and ready to wink myself silly at Mr. Immelman.  Sigh.

I already have my outfit pressed and ready:

(bobby jones golf skirt)

(sleeveless polo)

(nike visor)

(old faithfuls = silver bonannos)

I really wanted to bring Louis.  He hails from Scotland where the world's most famous golf course is located.

(bridge at st. andrews old course)

(st. andrews old course)

(see!  wouldn't he be a wonderful addition to the greenbrier's festivities??)

(i bought him this cap, but they said NO DOGS ALLOWED!)

Oh well, maybe next time.

Here's to a wonderful weekend, and a little inspiration too!

"Any time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to raise your standards. When people ask me what really changed my life, I tell them that absolutely the most important thing was changing what I demanded of myself. I wrote down all the things I would no longer accept in my life, all the things I would no longer tolerate, and all the things that I aspired to become." -Anthony Robbins

Happy 3rd Birthday Duke!!

Today is Louis' westie buddy Duke's THIRD BIRTHDAY!!  (see Duke's blog HERE)

Louis is very excited to celebrate with Duke today, and wanted to wear HIS birthday hat (Louis' birthday is next week) for the celebration:

Louis wanted to give Duke one of the pupcakes that he will be having at his party:

Louis also wanted to give Duke this fabulous dog float for the pool!  Duke has a swimming pool, and Louis is quite jealous.  However, he hopes that Duke will let him float around the pool on his new float with him!!

Happy Birthday Duke!!  We hope you have the most splendid day :)

Skull & Crossbones...Here I Come!.....Again

I've been invited to an event tonight.  It's at a private club.  One that is for men only (get your mind out of the gutter!  not that kind of club:)

The last time I attended an event at this club it was at the bidding of my friend Mr. Swiss.  He was convinced I would meet Mr. Seersucker at said club/event.  I blogged about it HERE.  Well, I did meet someone.  Not Mr. Seersucker, but we'll call him Mr. Gingham ;)  Pretty close, but not good enough.

Anyway, I'm going again tonight.  Daisy and Babbo Natale will also be in attendance.  After all of the excitement in the last week, I think I will make it a point NOT to meet anyone tonight.  That may be nice for a change.

I once again tried to Polyvore my outfit...but we all know about my relationship with Polyvore.  So, squinch your eyes tightly and imagine:

That this dress is bubblegum pink:

(j.crew summer linen button tab dress)

(bonanno's palm beach cork wedge - only mine are platinum/gold)

(now it's MY turn to imagine that i have this bag.  mine resembles it, but Coco forgot to logo it for me :)

So that's it!  Summer casual.  A bit of metallic fun to break up the bubblegum sweetness of the pink.  I'm betting I have the time of my life tonight...because I'm due one of those days.

xoxo,

Kindove Weird. A Little Bit Creepy....

Last night "h" and Louis had their first play date.  It didn't quite go according to plan....

You can read about it HERE on MK's blog mrs.mfc.

What I will fill you in on, however, is what happened AFTER MK and "h" abandoned me at the dog park.  Let me just say, men are attracted to me.  That is not the problem.  They always have been.  They just aren't the "right" men.  For example, they are much younger than I am.  So much younger that I laugh and tell them they are precious, but that they need to find someone their own age.  Granted, sometimes I give in and date them for a bit...but it never works out.  OR...they are older.  Much, much older.  Such was the case last night.  It was actually quite sad.  So I pretended to be married.  But that didn't work either.  And Louis was running around becoming BFFs with his little Scottie.  And I just wanted to scream "are you freaking serious buddy?????"  And he walked me to my car.  And at some point I think I was supposed to be rude or something?  I don't know.  But what I do know is that I was so uncomfortable that I wanted to cry :(

Daisy says this occurs to me because I am too nice.  I speak to, and smile at, everyone.  But whatever else can I do?  Be sour faced and snark?  No...I only do that to my boyfriends (JUST KIDDING!!).

He gave me his card.  He said he couldn't wait to see me again at the dog park.  And now....I feel like the dog park is ruined for Louis and I.  I don't want to go back.  Not if he will be there.  I guess I will have to take a guy the next time, to act as my faux husband.  And probably should wear a ring too?  It probably won't help.  He didn't seem to care that my "husband" was texting me telling me to hurry home for supper (yes, I even tried that).  Sigh.

Westie Wednesday (on Tuesday!)

I was so excited to share that I just COULD NOT wait until tomorrow :)  Last night I finally took Louis to Smalltown, VA's dog park.  Here's the thing...I've been meaning to do this for ages.  Somehow I never quite got around to it, and then when I did...they were closed for maintenance!

So, yesterday evening we loaded up in the car and took off.  I wasn't really sure what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised!  There is both a small dog side, as well as a large dog side.  We started on the small dog side of the park, and Louis immediately posed for a picture with the fire hydrant:

Next he made friends with a Boston Terrier.  There was also a Cairn Terrier there, but he wouldn't stay still long enough for a photo :)

After spending about 20 minutes on the small pup side, Louis was ready to head over to the large dog side.  He began pacing along the fence line and whining.  So, I gave him a stern talking to about making sure he didn't get himself trampled on...and I let him through the gate.

Of course, the first dog Louis decides to befriend is a St. Bernard.  The largest dog there!

There were quite a few large dogs, and Louis ran around with them for a few minutes.  He did a great job of keeping up, and all of the large dogs were very kind to him :)  There was a Blood Hound that took a great interest in Louis.  They ran back and forth and played tag with each other.  It was absolutely adorable.

Needless to say, the dog park will become a part of our regular routine moving forward :)

Tonight, weather permitting, Louis and MK's dog "h" have a play date scheduled.  Believe it or not, they have NEVER MET :-o  "h" is coming to Louis' first birthday party on August 7, so we want to be sure they are properly acquainted before then.

Hope your Tuesday is sunnier than mine!  I know we need this rain, but overcast skies are BLAH :(

He Said, She Said

"WOW" is really all can say about this weekend.  Yep.  Wow.

Friday night was:

1.  Sell your old gold for cash!  Seriously.  And I went.  And I made $160.
2.  Receiving the BEST cocktail napkins EVER from Babbo Natale:

3.  The game "Pick Up Lines" at Daisy's.  It was hysterical.  Apparently I DO NOT respond well to pick up lines :)
4.  Louis played with his puppy friends and wore himself completely out.

Saturday was:

1.  Summer Cocktail Crawl!

(yes, that's me...with a lai on my head)

(barbie and i)

(MK, me & Babbo Natalie.  photo bomb = the ex.  lovely.)

So I met a nice guy.  A bit of a funny story there...as I was trying to introduce him to someone else, but she wasn't really on board.  So, he and I chatted it up and he asked for my number :-o   However, the ex then proceeded to tell him that we had 2 children together.  New Guy looked a bit horrified and left.  Nice.  We'll see if he calls.  10 to 1 he won't.  Grrr....

Sunday was:

1.  I was exhausted on Sunday for PJ Brunch Club after such an exciting Saturday.  BUT...I finally got myself together in PJs and slippers and headed off to the The Voice of Reason & Mr. Swiss' house for a Swiss Style Brunch.  Yum, yum, yum...

2.  I heard a lot of interesting things on Sunday.  Things I don't really want to believe, but unfortunately I do.  Someone once shared the old proverb "Believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see" with me.  Fundamentally I understand the thinking here.  Really I do.  BUT...

3.  Discovery of various bruises on my arms and legs of indeterminate origin :(

4.  NCIS marathon with the puppy.

Happy Monday!

Home

I grew up in Florida.  I had no family there other than my mother and father, but it has always been "home" in my mind.  Now that my father is no longer alive, and my mother lives in a city in VA where I have never lived, I wonder where home is sometimes.  Is it Smalltown, VA?  I've made MY home here, that's for sure.

When friends leave for the holidays, or just a trip "home", I'm always a bit envious.  Where is that place for me?

My father's family is from Bamberg, SC.  Bamberg is about 1.5 hours from Edisto Island, and an hour from Charleston.  Bamberg is the type of town where everyone has one of three last names.  I have one of those last names, my father's mother had another one, and her mother had another one.  So, in effect, I've got all bases covered in Bamberg :)  Is this my home? Bamberg is surely where it all began.

This is the place where my father's family made their home before the American Revolution.  This is the place where my father's family fought to save their homestead during "the war"......otherwise known as 'the late unpleasantness'.

This is where Francis Marion (also known as 'the Swamp Fox' ) avoided British capture during the American Revolution.  I am a descendent of the Swamp Fox.  My father was named after him.

(British cavalryman Banastre Tarleton chased Marion for 26 miles & 7 hours & could not catch him. He supposedly said, “Come, my boys! Let us go back and we will find the Gamecock. As for this damned old fox, the devil himself could not catch him!” Thus the nickname “Swamp Fox” because Marion hid in the swamps in the Low Country of South Carolina to avoid British capture.)

(Grave of General Francis Marion.  Belle Isle, SC is the burial place of the Lowcountry's famous "Swamp Fox" general who outwitted the British during the American Revolution.)

Bamberg and Orangeburg are are full of family.  But they are family I haven't seen in years.  People who would hardly recognize me now.  They would only remember the little girl in pigtales who came to see where she came from, long ago.

The family members who I reconnected with at my father's funeral all seem to live in Edisto these days.  Perhaps this should be "home" for me?  I adore Edisto Island.  I would willingly move there if the opportunity presented itself :)

I don't know why today has me a bit nostalgic for "home", but I'm thinking that taking a Holiday to re-visit my roots may be in order in the next month or so.

"Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home."
-John Howard Payne

"The ache for home lives in all of us,
the safe place where we can go as we are
and not be questioned."
-Maya Angelou

"Home is the place where,
when you have to go there,
they have to take you in."
-Robert Frost

Happy Weekend!
