Just in the Nick of Time :)

What a wet, rainy Labor Day Weekend we had here in Smalltown, VA.  Currently my rain gauge in the back yard says 6.3" total.  The basement is taking on water, and I've got folding tables set up with my most prized possessions on them.

But that's okay :)  Really.  It is.  Do you know why?  Because it's a basement.  And everything I treasure is safe.  And I'm just so tickled that it's raining today.  And that it rained yesterday.  And that it rained the morning of Marilyn Monroe's wedding...but it stopped just in time for the ceremony.   And the rest of the evening was absolutely glorious :)  So we'll take all of this rain today, and for as long as it lasts, and we won't grumble one bit.  Pinky swear.

(see what I mean?  beautiful!)

But before I tell you all about that, let me tell you that Friday evening we went out for a bit.  The Real Housewife of Charleston & Mr. Charleston were in town for the wedding, and they came out for a bit.  When we all get together we act a fool.  I know, I know...we are far too old for that, but it is what it is.  And I wish I could show you everyone's faces here...but anyway....

(Barbie, me, TRHoC, Mr. C, Ken)

Everyone was make the same goofy face I was, and don't ask me where TEN was.  Perhaps he was taking the picture?  Sometimes he can tell when we are about to act as if we haven't any sense, and he vacates the room :-o

Anyway, it was much fun...and a lovely kick off to The Wedding Weekend!

Now, on to The Wedding!  We arrived at noon atop the mountain.  It was terribly hot and muggy, and then...it began to rain.  We were in a bridal suite getting ready, enjoying cocktails, taking pictures.  We tried to pretend that the rain wasn't there :)

(the bridesmaid's bouquets were made of paper)

(so were the corsages for the mothers)

(and the boutonnieres)

(Marilyn Monroe's bouquet was made out of antique broaches, with her grandmother's broach holding everything together.)

(Daisy covered the ring bearer's pillow with antique lace)

(Marilyn Monroe had The Drummer's wedding band engraved with their wedding date)

(the bouquet that Marilyn Monroe tossed was made out of paper as well!)

(she had her wedding wedges hand painted.  this picture doesn't really do them justice)

(LC, Suz & me)

(Marilyn Monroe, right before she walked down the aisle :)

(final adjustments!)

(Suz, me & SLB)

(Suz, Marilyn Monroe & me)

(me..wearing flats in a wedding...it was FANTASTIC!!)

(Marilyn Monroe's father walking her down the aisle)

(Marilyn Monroe & her father)

(whimsical photo of the wedding <3)

(the wedding party)

(Marilyn Monroe & her father.  He is getting ready to present her to The Drummer)

(i was crying up a storm...but it didn't show up in pictures, thank goodness!!)

(an old German tradition - The Drummer is German - husband and wife complete their first task together at the wedding)

(Mr. & Mrs. Drummer!!!)

(TEN and I)

(Daisy & I)

(my mini-me :)

And the remainder of the evening was absolutely lovely :)  The weather was perfect, and the bride & groom danced into the night.  It couldn't have been any more perfect.

And therefore, as I said, I'm not complaining about this rain.  I'm not even complaining about the fact that Barbie & I are flying to NYC Thursday morning for Fashion's Night Out...and it's going to be raining.  I'm not even complaining about shopping in the rain, or going to the oyster festival in the rain...or the polo match.  Nope.  Not me.  I made a little deal with God.  I asked him to make the rain stop in time for Marilyn Monroe's nuptials.  I begged him, actually.

And it did.

Just in the Nick of time :)

I LOVE ALL THE DETAILS!! AND THE First task! I love stuff like that-incorporating his heritage. We did that A LOT with our wedding too- for Andrew (but, new zealand, not german). And, my friend has been saving antique pins and earrings for her bouquet to do this same thing. SO NEAT! It rained all day on my wedding day, but stopped for the entire ceremony and reception...and then rained late that night. I prayed a lot too. Glad it cleared up for MM! :)

T, the wedding looks beautiful. I am so glad the rain held off for the remainder of the reception. I just loved your dress!
What was the first task thing? What did they have to do?

The details of MM's wedding are crazy! Such time and thought went into everything. I promise you nothing stops here cause of a little rain. And it is supposed to clear up Friday. And I am still so mad I am missing you!!!!!!!!!!
