Beef & Barley

I made another batch of homemade treats for Louis last night.  These were beef & barley (the last batch was chicken & rice).  It's really simple, and almost like making cookies!  Why in the world I've never made cookies is beyond me.  But ask me to cook for my dog....you've got it :)

(here i've rolled out the dough and used a butterfly cookie cutter to shape the treats, which are approximately 1/4" thick)

(here i've placed the treats on a cookie sheet to cook for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.  unlike cookies, they don't "rise", so they can be squished closely together)

(these are the bunny head treats i made last week with chicken & rice)

Each batch makes about 50 treats.  If you find yourself bored out of your mind, and want to join my obsession, the book I'm working from is The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs.

The author has westies, so that's pretty much why I chose this one...but I'm sure there are others out there that are just a great!  I've brought in a few of each of the treats I've made for MK's dog H to try.  I can't wait to hear his thoughts :)

I think this is great! I'm a huge advocate for dog nutrition and if I had the time I would totally cook for my dogs or feed them raw. Unfortunately I don't have the time or the patience. :( These sound like they would be really tasty for the Munchkins, but they are both allergic to grain so we have to be really picky what treats and food we give them. Otherwise I would be ALL over trying these out!
