Weekend Recap.....On Thursday Of Course!

Hello.  Hello.  I'm here! 

I've been feeling incredibly unmotivated as of late, and have put off writing this post because I wanted it to be fun and snarky and such.  Unfortunately, I think it's going to be a bit dull because I've got no energy. 

It's overcast and rainy here in Smalltown, VA, and that never does much for the spirits does it?  I've got to get all gussied up to attend a dinner tonight, and all I really want to do is go home and curl up on the couch.  Sigh. 

Let's talk about last weekend shall we?  Let's talk about the FABULOUS celebration of nuptials that I attended.  Let's talk about all of the good friends I had the chance to visit with.  Let's NOT talk about the fact that Virginia Tech lost to Bama.  Okay?  Thanks :)

TEN and I left work early on Friday and headed to Johnson City, TN.  JLB and The Juggler live in Bristol, TN but decided to tie the knot at Maple Lane Farm in Johnson City.  Wow!  It was beautiful!!!  There is this gorgeous home on the property and I want to live there. 

I want those two men who own the house to come to my house to decorate.  I was a Nosy Nellie and peeped in to all of the rooms I could manage.  LOVE!

I took a picture of the bathroom sink because it was the only inconspicuous picture I could capture.  Isn't it fabulous?

There was a lenai where the food for the rehearsal dinner was served, and tables spread across the lawn where we ate.  JLB & The Juggler have a friend who is in a band, and the band played after dinner.  We danced ourselves silly, and it was just magnificent :)

Saturday we slept in, then sat by the pool for a bit.  "The girls", or those that were asked to wear a certain color to the wedding, headed over to the house at 2:00 to help JLB "get ready".  We had mimosas and took pictures and caught up even more.  JLB's family had pictures taken outside, and then the girls joined for pictures as well.  It was an absolutely perfect day, and I had to say a little prayer thanking God for blessing us with such glorious weather :)  Here are a few pics from the wedding and reception:

By the way...I do realize that it's completely ridiculous that I block out faces.  But you know what?  I live in this silly little world where I still believe no one knows who T is.  And you know what else?  I kindove like it there:)

After the reception the guys were throwing a fit to get to a TV where they could watch the VT/Bama game.  So, we bought some beer and chips and headed back to our hotel room.  It was a very, very sad night to say the least :(

However, the next morning we were up and at 'em.  I had my very first "Bojangles experience" as TEN calls it.  I call it fast food fried chicken.  Either way, it was pretty good.  We said our goodbyes and started out on our Tennessee/Virginia Wine Trek.  TEN did a remarkable job organizing this little trek, if I do say so myself.  Here are some pics from the lovely wineries we visited:

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

What a magical weekend!  Another of my bestest has married the love of her life:)  I have pictures and an abundance of stories to share.  I'm still recouping though, so it will be tomorrow until I am able to put together anything making much sense.

While I watched JLB & The Juggler dance their first dance I realized that dreams really do come true.  When I finally make that commitment I know what song I want to dance to:

Honor Labor!

"Labor Day differs in every essential from other holidays of the year in any country. I've never really understood Labor Day.  I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have a day off in early September.  I know it has to do with labor and work.  I suppose we are celebrating ourselves for working?  I always hang my American flag out on Labor Day, but I'm not sure I really understand why.  That's no good!

So, I decided that this year I would Google it:

The holiday originated in Canada, Greece, Turkey and Vietnam out of labor disputes ("Nine-Hour Movement") first in Hamilton, then in Toronto, Canada in the 1870s, which resulted in a Trade Union Act which legalized and protected union activity in 1872 in Canada. The parades held in support of the Nine-Hour Movement and the printers' strike led to an annual celebration in Canada. In 1882, American labor leader Peter J. McGuire witnessed one of these labor festivals in Toronto. Inspired from Canadian events in Toronto, he returned the USA, to New York and organized the first American "labor day" on September 5 of the same year.


Interesting. 

TEN and I are heading to Tennessee today for another wedding weekend.  JLB & The Juggler are tying the knot tomorrow, and I couldn't be happier for them!!!!  I'm wearing a pretty little purple dress, as I've been asked to do by JLB.  She isn't having "official" bridesmaids, but has asked some of her nearest and dearest to wear a dress in a certain color for pictures and such.  I'm so honored to be one the girls asked to participate :)

On our way back from Tennessee on Sunday TEN has put together a little wine trek for us.  There are 6 wineries on the way, and they all look fabulous!  I'm super excited about the weekend in general, and am sure I will have many, many stories to share upon my return.

Speaking of Shoes....

....I finally purchased a pair to wear in MK's wedding!  The shoes with the bow that were my favorite were no longer available :(

So, I continued to hunt and came across another J. Crew heel that I liked almost as much!!  I found this heel on ebay, and it was MUCH less than on J. Crew's site, of course.  So, the shoes I will be wearing for MK's wedding are:

They look fabulous with the rich eggplant color of the bridesmaid's dresses.  The dress fits wonderfully, and I'm most excited for October 17 to get here!!!

On a not so exciting note....

I tried on the bridesmaid's dress for WIMP's wedding as well.  It is the exact same size as the dress for MK's wedding, but made by a different company.  Apparently it is a company that doesn't believe in letting people breathe while wearing their frocks.  Let me just tell you....IT TOOK BOTH GIRLS TO GET ME INTO THIS DRESS!!!!!!!  Whatever am I going to do?  The wedding is September 19 (2 weeks away) and I can't fit into the dress.  Gaahhh!  So, I've embarked upon a starvation diet.  Yesterday was my first day.  I didn't eat all day.  I then decided to go out for cocktails.  Bad idea. Today I had to have a little bit of breakfast so that I could function.  But that's all I've had.  I'm going to try desperately to lose 5-8lbs. in order to fit COMFORTABLY into this dress on September 19.  I know it's a stupid idea, and not healthy at all, but I don't know what else to do:(

Forever?

Have you ever had a friend that you knew would ALWAYS be a friend? The type that you just couldn't imagine NOT having in your life when you were 85? The type of friend that you knew you would take holidays with....kids at the beach, skiing in the winter....or just you and your significant others when the kids were off at school? You knew that you would learn to play bridge together, and learn to knit together, and grow old together. As friends.

It's so sad when something happens. Something that doesn't even feel very big, but somehow it becomes big. Something that makes it all different. Something that puts this huge barrier between the two of you and you realize it one day, and there really isn't any going back.

I was perusing Faith Carter's blog Letters from a College Student just now, and I came across this quote:

“I’d always thought we’d be friends forever. Well, forever just got a lot shorter than I expected.”

My heart just stopped. It says it all. Part of me wants to send it to her. Part of me doesn't.
