That isn't to say that won't happen after this week (fingers crossed), but boy have I been busy!
One of the things that was most important for me to accomplish this week was to take down my Christmas decorations. I did that yesterday, and last night TEN helped me lug my Christmas tree to the curb. AND THEN....
You can only imagine the reaction I had when I flung back the living room carpet to sweep and saw this....
Apparently my tree stand LEAKED onto my hardwood floors :( I checked the stand, and there were water droplets on the bottom. Directly into the garbage that tree stand went, but alas...what to do with the water damage?
I took a picture and told TEN that I would post it on the blog, and ask for help. I just know one of you has some advice. Can this be fixed? I've left the rug pulled back to let the wood "dry out", but other than that I'm at a loss.

OMG! I would be annoyed! I'm not sure it can be fixed but I'll ask around.
My Mom and Dad have water damage to their hardwoods due to their toilet leaking in the bathroom.
They're having to replace the entire floor!

Give it a few days uncovered. It may go away on it's own. I had a place where my male dog (with failing kidney's) thought he saw a tree!!! Anyway, I cleaned up the mess, was horrified, and in time it ALMOST dried completely away.
OH NO!!! I dont know...maybe a new finish on the whole floor?

I had a week off and I was SOOO busy and had no computer time.
Oh no, I think I would be crying. I don't have any suggestions for you but the one about leaving it uncovered to dry out sounds like a good place to start
im going to offer a very unofficial suggestions because i am the least DIY person in the world probably. Could you sand that part and re-stain it?

Oh no! Dark stains are really hard to get out. As opposed to white ones that is. I think the water has gone deeper into the wood or something. But google using vaseline to help. I know it works WONDERS on the white water stains. No idea what it'll do here, but I doubt it can hurt. But I can't promise that either. Again, google can probably explain better.

All I know is, my stepdad...who's a carpenter....had to replace the section of the hardwoods that our cat kept peeing on.
For the future, I found a really cool plastic tray thingy that you stick underneath your tree stand. It will catch the leaky water!
I just happened upon your blog today and I think it is great! I am sorry for the upsetting floor discover, water damage is always tricky. I hope the rest of your week goes well and so happy I found your blog!! (Also love your pics from NYC!)

Whoa! Dark stains especially those caused by water leaks are really frustrating. Those hardwood floors can still be fixed. You just have to seek the help of the floor experts near your place.
