I've purchased my tickets for the Foxfield Spring Races!!! I attend this event every year, and have since college. I talked about it last year HERE and HERE. In order to not bore those of you who are familiar with Foxfield to death, I'll just skip right along.
So, I've purchased my tickets. I'm super excited :) There are 10 of us going together in a group this year. Although you certainly walk around and see everyone under the sun at the races, the group you attend with is rather important. I'm super excited about this year's group! Now I must begin the search for just the right sun dress. I will most definitely be asking for your help when I narrow down the search!
Also...a little picture of Louis. This was from TEN's birthday. Poor little guy didn't understand that everyone hadn't shown up to see him :( He kept running around looking at everyone, waiting for them to admire him. When they didn't he would pout and move to the next person. It was quite stressful for my little, so we put him in his crate to salvage his pride.
(for future reference...the above is my new "MOVIE NIGHT" logo. when you see it on my blog, get excited! it means i've watched a movie and i'm gonna tell you all about it. also, i'm going to be ranking them by seersucker suits, of course! - thanks MK for the idea!! )
0 Seersucker Suits = DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE IT IS AWFUL!
1 Seersucker Suit = An Okay Watch If You've Nothing Better To Do
Tuesday night after my chemical peel I came home and decided it would be movie night for Louis and I! I am starting to get back into watching movies, and I'm loving it. However, my Cox Cable bill is not so much something I am loving....as I get my movies from On Demand.
***Side Note...TEN has NetFlix. He's always all "hey, lets just put the movies you want to see in my que and then you won't have to spend money on On Demand". As great as that is in theory, it doesn't work. The movies come to HIS house. He gets TWO at a time. They NEVER seem to be the movies I want to watch. AND...sometimes I want to watch 4 in one night :) Take that NetFlix!
Back to Tuesday night. I found exactly what I wanted to watch, and I adored it! Have you seen The September Issue?? It's actually a documentary about Anna Wintour and her team publishing the September issue of American Vogue. As any American Vogue reader knows, THE September issue is where it's at. It's like 500 pages of everything you need to know about fashion for the upcoming year. It's amazing!!!
Anyway, Anna was in full bitch mode, and I loved every minute of it. I would quit my job today, and leave everything behind, to work for Anna. Seriously. Yes, yes...I've seen The Devil Wears Prada. Now I've seen The September Issue. I know she's a bitch. I know she's awful. But I don't care! She makes Rachel Zoe look like nothing but a lil' ol' raisin squinchy face.
Quel horreur! DID I JUST SAY THAT? Yes friends, I did. Now we all know I do love me some Rachel, but she doesn't hold a candle to Anna.
What amazes me most about Anna is that she dresses much like I do. Here she is, determining fashion for the whole world...and yet...she dresses in a classic way with a little bit of a twist. All of these fantastic couture clothes surround her, everyone in the office is decked out in crazy/bizarre/trendy nonsense, and here she is in a cap sleeved, floral print, knee length dress with heels. Now, granted...her outfit costs 227 times more than mine does, but you know what I mean. She's brilliant...but classic. And I love her.
Okay, enough about that. Watch it. You won't be sorry. Pinky swear.
IF you like fashion at all!
The second movie of the night was Everybody's Fine. I like Robert De Niro, and the preview looked intriguing....
Let me sum this movie up by saying....everybody is NOT fine.
Was it a good movie? Sure. Was it funny? No. Was it happy and heartwarming? No. Well, that's not fair....the last 5 minutes were lovely :)
This movie broke my heart, but it also made me realize that time is of the essence, and things are not always what they seem.
If you have family issues, and need reassurance that your are not alone...watch this movie. Or, if you have a perfect family and want to feel sorry for those of us who don't...watch this movie. Otherwise, skip it.

Tonight is happy hour for an organization that TEN is involved with. Basically, a portion of all of the cocktails sold tonight will go to TEN's organization. So, unfortunately I think that means I have to drink a lot of cocktails tonight.
I had a chemical peel on Tuesday. Did I mention that? Hmmm...I don't think I did. Anyway, I've had the kind (don't ask me the name) that one gets three times, three weeks apart.
***SIDE NOTE - Three is also my favorite number. In case you were wondering.
I woke up yesterday morning expecting to see my face red, irritated and peely.
NOPE. It looked just fine! This morning, however, I look a bit wind burnt and very, very dry. I'm excited! I can't wait to see the results. My aesthetician assures me that after 3 of these masks I will no pores to speak of, no splotchiness of the skin due to sun damage, and most of all...fine lines and wrinkles will be gone :)
Secret Confession: I have secretly hoped that someone would invite me to a Murder Mystery Party for years. No one ever has :( Or, perhaps no one thinks it would be as fabulous as I do and just hasn't planned one?
So, I'm going to plan one. I am going to host this event, and I am going to require that everyone dress their part. And, I'm going to serve dinner...just like we are at a dinner theater. It's going to be fabulous. Louis will even have a part I think :)
Now, help me here. Have you ever attended or hosted one of these? What worked? What didn't? What did you walk away saying "the next time we do this, we shall do such and such to make it better"?
Jenny DB from So Say I has tagged me in the Fun With Photo Tag game!! I'm cracking up right now, because I can't wait to see what picture I find. AND...the fact that whoever is in it is going to have a little white box over their face, so the story probably won't be nearly as funny:(
Since we are on the subject of the "little white box", let me explain myself. I started this as an anonymous blog. I was on Match.com, and I didn't want anyone to know who I was for fear they may figure out who one of my dates was. My purpose was NEVER to hurt anyone's feelings, and therefore I wanted to remain as anonymous as possible.
Obviously I'm no longer on MDC. I chose to share a picture of TEN and I when I introduced him to the blog. I wasn't 100% ready to show my face (even though by then I was pretty sure that everyone who was living in Smalltown, VA and reading my blog knew who I was), and I didn't want to expose TEN's face.
Now, quite honestly, I don't really care about showing my face...but I don't feel completely okay with posting pictures of my friends on my blog. The internet is so very public, and half of the time we are swinging around cocktails and doing silly things. Is this an invasion of their privacy? Should I ask them for their permission to post their pictures? MK and I talked about this for quite some time the other day, and I'm on the fence. I think I very well may remove my "little white box", but I'm still just not sure about my friends. I need to think on it some more. Because really...as innocent as it all seems, I would never want a picture I posted to come back to bite one of them.
Okay, enough. Just my thoughts. Now, back to the Fun With Photo Tag game :)
Here are the rules:
Open your 1st Photo Folder
Scroll to the 10th photo
Post the photo (no cheating) and the story behind it
Tag 5 or more people
Well, this is funny!! Here I was, ready to fully expose myself...and I'm not even in the picture :(
(TEN's friend, TEN, karaoke Bill)
The story behind this picture is that TEN and I were about and about one night. We ran into this friend of his who has an amazing voice. TEN was determined that I needed to hear this guy sing. So, we went to a local bar that had karaoke that night. TEN also decided that he need to sing back up for this friend of his. I thought it was all completely hilarious, hence the picture. I can't remember what song they are singing, but apparently TEN thinks he is a rap star or something..check out the hand motions! And his friend....snapping to keep the beat. I so wish this had been a video :)
Now, I tag a few of my blog friends to delve into their picture archives as well!!
I tried to tag most of my bloggy friends that routinely post pictures of themselves. I didn't for a while, so I was never tagged in things that that...and completely understand if you don't...but that was the method to my madness above :)
Enjoy!! Can't wait to see what pictures you come up with.
In keeping with my commitment to "cook" one meal per week, I squeezed in last week's meal Sunday night.
A few weeks ago I went to a friend's Pampered Chef party. Now, as we all know...I am NOT a cook. At all. But, I'm trying to learn....so I purchased a few things. The sales lady made a dish of this Mexican Chicken Lasagna for all of us to try, and I seriously gobbled up bunches of it and proclaimed that I just had to make it myself! Well, off I went without even getting the recipe. Apparently one is supposed to purchase these recipes in a cook book of sorts from Pampered Chef. Oops.
Never fear though, MK bought the little cook book that had the recipe in it and I "borrowed" it from her :) Thanks MK!
The recipe is ridiculously easy, and I really didn't expect it to be nearly as good as the PC woman's. I was pleasantly surprised.
(the next time i definitely need to make it in a larger dish!)
(the longer you let it sit, the more firm it gets. after another 5 minutes it actually sliced like "real" lasagna. BUT...we were starved, so we couldn't wait!)
(i tried to get a picture from the side to show the layers, but you can't really tell...)
Since I'm super nice, and all about sharing, I'm going to pass this recipe along to you! Isn't this just your lucky day :) So, gather round and I'll tell you what to do to make this tasty dish.
Mexican Chicken Lasagna
1/4 cup fresh cilantro
1 8oz package cream cheese (I used fat free)
2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese (I used "mexican style")
1 medium onion (I omitted the onion b/c I don't like them)
1 28 oz can of enchilada sauce (I bought 3 10 oz cans of red sauce. However, MK says that when she makes it she wants to try the green sauce to spice it up a bit. I think I might try that next as well!! Also, PC says you can substitue 1 22oz bottle of medium salsa &1/2 cup of water in place of the enchilada sauce.)
12 6-inch corn tortillas
3 cups diced or shredded cooked chicken (I totally went lazy bones here and bought canned chicken. I was a little worried that my laziness would compromise the taste of the dish. However, it was just as tasty!)
Chop up cilantro. Place cream cheese in a medium sized microwaveable bowl, and microwave on high for 30 - 45 seconds (until very soft). Add cilantro and 1-1/2 cups of Monterey Jack cheese. Mix well. Chop onion and set aside. Spread 2/3 cup of the enchilada sauce over the bottom of the baking dish. Pour remaining enchilada sauce into a medium sized mixing bowl. Set aside.
To assemble lasagna, dip four of the tortillas into enchilada sauce in mixing bowl and arrange over sauce in baking dish. Overlap as necessary. Scoop half of the cream cheese mixture over tortillas (I did this with a spoon, and then used a spatula to even it out). Top with 1 cup of the chicken and 1/3 of the onion. Repeat layers one time. Dip remaining tortillas into sauce and arrange over second layer. Top with remaining chicken and onion. Pour remaining enchilada sauce over lasagna and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup of Monterey Jack cheese.
Microwave, covered, on HIGH 12-15 minutes or until center is hot. Let stand 10 minutes. Sprinkle with additional chopped cilantro. Cut into squares.
Smalltown, VA has a Valentine's Bachelor/Bachelorette auction every year to raise money for the arts. This year's event had to be re-scheduled due to the snow. So, it was held Friday night. This year TEN and I went together, and I couldn't help thinking (again) of how much has changed since last year.
Last year I attended this event with someone else. He was a Mach.com date. You may remember him if you are a long time reader. He called me his "boo". Ring any bells? If not, feel free to feel my pain HERE and HERE.
I think last year's experience may have been what prompted me to announce "TEN, just so you know...you are babysitting me tonight. I feel the need to enjoy MANY martinis." And....I did :) TEN said he had me home and tucked into bed by midnight. He then took little Louis out for a stroll (in his baby-T...Louis' not TEN's...more on that later), and returned home to tuck the puppy in. Good boyfriend...
Saturday I had some errands I needed to run. It was very chilly in Smalltown, VA, so we again put Louis into his sweater. Here's the thing...when you have a little one that you see every day you don't realize that they are, in fact, growing like a weed. I swear I just had Louis wearing his little argyle sweater a week or two ago and it fit. Not anymore! He looked like he belonged on an episode of Jersey Shore...muscle T and all :( So, we added PetSmart to our list of errands.
Of course, PetSmart didn't have a single dog sweater. Boo on PetSmart! There was a Grand Opening going on for PetCo, so we piled into the car and headed over there. BIG MISTAKE. Grand Openings of any store are a nightmare, but when you pack a store with not only people but puppies....well you can imagine! We braved the masses in search of a sweater, only to find NOTHING. Uggghhh....
So, I've just ordered Louis this little sweater online :
I sure hope it fits!
Saturday night was Girl's Night! Oddly enough, there isn't really anything MAJOR to share. I know, amazing, right? Not that it wasn't a good time. We had a GREAT time. It's just that we danced, drank and laughed ourselves silly....but nothing "dramatic" occurred. Good times for sure!
Sunday I spent the entire day on the couch snuggling with Louis. TEN came over to join us in the afternoon. It's rare I find myself with the time to lay on the couch all day, and I surely did enjoy it. Now I am rested and ready to take on the week!
I like seersucker. I like boys with manners. Boys with manners, who are honest and kind. I like westie pups. I like pretty frocks and fancy purses. TEN is the one who makes me smile, and together we stumble through life trying to enjoy all it has to offer :)
