A few weeks ago TEN had Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on the TV. I hadn't seen it, so I watched it with him. I "ooh'd and ahhh'd" about how I hadn't known the back story on Robin Hood. I had always thought he was a bit of a scoundrel, who decided to help "his people". I knew he did this by robbing the rich (like King John...bad, bad, man!) and giving to the lovely poor people.
I hadn't known he was a Lord. I hadn't known about his father. I hadn't know a lot.
AND THEN......
This weekend Robin Hood was a soldier. An archer. With ZERO noble blood. What?!?!?
Here, have a look at this trailer:
Throughout the whole movie I kept saying "when is he going to rob from the rich people and give to the poor?". "Wasn't King John played by a lion in the cartoon? What were Robin Hood and Maid Marion? Were they foxes?" "Why isn't Robin Hood a Lord in this version? I'm so confused."
Basically, I missed a lot of the movie and TEN lost his patience with me. He kept "shush-ing" me. I still don't know exactly what happened, but I did like the movie. What I can't tell you is whether or not I like it better than Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I know that watching both of them confused me. But, that's probably just me. Because I also had this version running through my head:
As you know by now, I do love anything that is about the Lords and Ladies of England. Seeing the Tower of London had me bouncing in my seat. Because I saw the Tower of London in real life. Two years ago. And boy has it changed! (hahaha...kidding) Anyway, if you like movies where people scuffle, and they are fighting for a cause, and there is a love story.....but they do not rob from the rich to give to the poor....then you will like this movie :)
So, for a pretty good movie I give Robin Hood:
ONE SEERSUCKER SUIT! Now, I would like to note that I am not a fan of these types of movies really. So, if you are then you would probably have given it two seersucker suits. Its just that I much prefer movies where there isn't a bunch of battling and nonsense taking place. I prefer cold, calculated murder. I'm just sayin....

I'm SO with you! We watched this a while ago, at MB's request, and I kept saying 'Whhhhhaaaa?'. I like my men noble and lordly and.... sigh, okay, I like them Disneyized.
If TEN had been Disneyized, he wouldn't have been shushing you. He would have been smoldering and enraptured with the sound of your voice and the light gleaming off your golden locks.
::kicks foot:: It's not such a bad world...
We saw this in theaters while living in England and I really didn't like it. It felt like something was missing, there were lots of holes. Suddenly all the lost boys are at the Cliffs of Dover to fight the French? The French are the bad guys? The love interest out of nowhere decides she loves Robbin Hood? There was no character development. I thought it fell flat. Stick to the cartoon version!
I agree, I don't really need to see all the fighting and killing to like a movie or not.

The Disney version is my favorite as well. However the song in the Kevin Costner one that I used to want guys to sing to me...hahaha
"Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul"

I agree with The City Boy on the LRRH. I'm not a fan of all the killing adventures.
